Christmas Word Search Printable
Generate a Christmas word search you can print for free. Use the ready-made puzzles, or paste in your own word list — names, vocabulary, anything.
How to make your own Christmas word search
Type or paste one word per line into the box above — up to about twenty words works well. Press Generate and the grid rebuilds instantly with your words hidden horizontally, vertically and diagonally. Any spaces inside a word are ignored, so "ice skating" becomes "ICESKATING".
The ready-made puzzles use three levels. Easy keeps to shorter words in a small grid with forward directions only, which suits younger children who are still learning to scan a page. Medium adds backwards words and a larger grid. Hard brings in diagonals and reverses, which trips up most adults too.
Classroom and party uses
Teachers often use the word list box to build a puzzle around the week's spelling words or vocabulary, which costs nothing and reinforces the same words twice. At a Christmas party it works well as a quiet table activity while you're waiting for food, and printing one per child avoids arguments over whose turn it is.
If you're printing for a mixed group, generate two versions — easy and hard — so younger children don't finish first and lose interest.
Frequently asked questions
Is this actually free?
Yes. All six tools on this site are free, with no account, no email address and no download required.
Can I print the answers on a separate page?
Yes — press Show answer key and a second sheet appears with the solution highlighted. It prints on its own page so you can hand out the puzzle without giving away the answers.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
You can build and solve the puzzle on any device, but printing is easiest from a desktop or laptop browser.
Why do some words not appear?
If a word is longer than the grid is wide, or there's no room left after placing the others, it gets skipped and listed separately under the grid. Shortening the longest words usually fixes it.
